It was Autumn 1996. I had been married nearly a year to the man who turned boorish the second the ring was on my finger. By then I had known him 6 years. 5 of which were good. Those were the five
before we got married.
I was in the kitchen and he was in the living room. We never spent much time in the same room. Tough order when you consider we lived in a 4 room apartment. I was listening to the radio when suddenly the song

came on. Suddenly I felt a jolt, a zap, a rush right up my spine. This was the music I used to listen to. He
hated this music. He treated me like he
hated me. This was one of my favorite bands playing my favorite tune. I began to remember how I used to feel, think, act. I remembered...
me.
I then marched into the living room, looked over at the slob lying on the couch listening to
Gypsy Kings and said:
"Hey. It's over. I don't want to be married to you anymore. Pack your shit and get the fuck out." and I walked back into the kitchen.
An hour later, he walked into the kitchen as if nothing were and asked:
"What's for supper?"
I laughed and said:
"Nothing. Nothing is ever for supper ever again."

The weekend I met the
Kraut, the same song was playing in his car while we were on our way to his place to pick up the hockey jersey he conveniently forgot but wanted to wear to the Bruins/Sabres game we were on our way to see in Buffalo. The volume was down so low that I thought it might just be in my head! Well, my fate was sealed. We did
it for the first time that afternoon and what a wild and wonderful ride it has been! I'm a superstitious woman, and therefore in hindsite I wonder if perhaps the song was a sign.
