I saw Frank walk down the stairs and I almost didn’t recognize him. He looked like a man who was having an affair. He had changed his hair, the boring clothes he wore were now labelled and he walked with an air of arrogance that had not been there before.

“Tara, you look amazing!!!” and he kissed my cheek. I almost keeled over, as he was never one for the cheek kissing in the past, nor did he ever exude such charm, and I wanted to slap his face!

Instead I said, “Doesn’t Laura look beautiful?”
“Yah, she looks good for a change”
Now I wanted to slap his face, and it took all my strength and not to, as I saw a bunch of people walking through down the hallway and coming towards me.

I greeted, smiled, made small talk and thought I was going to be sick, as this was too much bullshit for me in one afternoon. I vowed then and there, no matter how much I loved Laura I couldn’t ever do this again and was hoping that for her 50th we’d be celebrating on a beach somewhere with young men catering to every need!

With that thought an Elvis tune was playing, “It’s Now or Never” and I saw Laura kissing Frank, thanking him for the gift he got her and how lucky she was to have him.

In that instant I knew she’d never leave, she’d put up with the cheating, the humiliation from her mother in law and grow old and the last glimmer of her spirit had finally died!
