Memories are Made of this….

Luna (aka Teresa Giosia)

For those of you that have been reading my articles over the past few months, you’ve gotten an inside look into one Canadian Italian woman’s point of view and thoughts.

As I sit at my desk, about to write a new article, I decided to put in an old, old tape, yes a tape…in the CD player, there’s an opening for tapes and thank God, because I have over 160 tapes and they all hold wonderful memories and moments over the course of my lifetime.

Brutta figura

Terri Giosia, aka Luna

The ultimate in an Italian’s life is “brutta figura”. What does that mean, literally translated “ugly figure” which means “portraying a bad image” and for Italians it’s all about image, looks and what others think, vs. what really counts.

Italian Bridal Shower or Nightmare Reality Show!!!!  Part II

By Luna, aka Terri Giosia

The day after the shower I called my mom for the full story never knowing that I’d get an article out of her experience….

I should mention how the invitation stipulates an amount that every woman has to bring…which is standard what was different and learned is the “in” thing now, at the very bottom in teeny font it says where the bride is registered and your encouraged to bring a gift.

Italian Bridal Shower or Nightmare Reality Show!!!!

By Luna, aka Terri Giosia

Bridal showers, a tradition that should be wiped out like the plague was!!!

Men have “stag parties”, women are stuck playing ridiculously embarrassing games, with little or no alcohol and the bride gets to sit under an umbrella for 5 hours and opens and “ooohs and ahhhhhs” over gifts.

Ma, I’m getting married!!!!  Part III

By Luna, aka Terri Giosia

So in her mind getting married was as natural as breathing. An old memory came flooding back to her of when she 17, right after graduation, she wanted to go to New York and get into acting.

Ma, I’m getting married!!!!  Part II

Eh, I know it's not Lunedì, ma insomma....~Rue cool smile

By Luna, aka Terri Giosia

“Ya got it all figured out, eh!?? So we have to kick out our tenants that have been here for over 5 years, change our entire life so you can go to work, live upstairs for free and have la bella vita, is that it?

Lilia’s face now looked shocked as she never expected this from her mother.

Life Coach

I met Luna at a time in my life where I was stepping out into uncharted territory. I ended an unhealthy relationship with a man I was involved with for nearly 8 years and began a healthy relationship with myself. Armed with my hopes, dreams, and a burning desire to dive head-first into the unknown, I headed over to her house -regularly. Luna's impact was enormous and is felt in my life until this day. Even now, her voice comforts me and her bright light and energy always stokes mine. I love her dearly and I hope, that all who need her, find her. ~Rue

Ma, I’m getting married!!!!  Part I

By Luna, aka Terri Giosia

“Ma, I’m getting married!” were the words that Lilia uttered as she ran into the basement of her parents home, while her boyfriend stood in the doorway with a strange look on his face.

  • Being from an Italian dad and a french Canadian mother, I've seen alot at weddings. I'll agree I've seen some degrading things. I remember at my cousins wedding (french side), the men danced with the bride and pinned money to her dress but also the women danced with the groom and pinned money to his tux. Luckily my dad didn't want that at my wedding.

  • I have to admit the whole garter dealie doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either. Neither does the table centrepiece giveaway... How many table-sized colour-coded custom vases can you possibly use?

“A philosopher once wrote you need three things to have a good life. One, a meaningful relationship, two, a decent job of work, and three, to make a difference. And it was always that third one that stressed me, to make a difference. And I realise that I do. Every day, we all do. It’s how we interact, with our fellow man.”
